Michigan Senate Again Looks To Ban E-Cigarettes For Minors
LANSING (AP) - Michigan lawmakers will again move to ban minors from using e-cigarettes despite Gov. Rick Snyder's continued opposition to the legislation because it would exclude the products from being regulated as tobacco under state law.
The state Senate on Wednesday is expected to pass a bill that would prohibit teens 17 and under from buying the popular devices. Stores also could not sell e-cigarettes to minors.
E-cigarettes heat a nicotine solution to produce an odorless vapor.
Snyder also supports the ban. He vetoed the legislation in January because he said a provision would conflict with ongoing federal efforts to regulate the popular devices.
Supporters of the bill say it would be a good first step because Michigan is among just seven states where minors can legally buy e-vapor products.
