Michigan Sees Heavy Snow In Places, Bitter-Cold Temperatures

HONOR, Mich (WWJ/AP) — More than a foot of fresh snow has fallen on parts of Michigan as forecasters offer warnings amid bitterly-cold temperatures across the state.

The National Weather Service says Monday morning the heaviest snow was in northern Michigan and along Lake Michigan, with 16 inches reported over a 24-hour period starting Sunday in the Benzie County community of Honor. About 11 inches fell near Suttons Bay.

The weather service says Traverse City saw about 10 inches. Along western Michigan, the community of Scottville received 9.8 inches, the Holland area had 8 inches and the Muskegon area had 6 inches.

Temperatures were below zero in parts of the Upper Peninsula. Winds made it feel colder. More snow is forecast for Monday, including up to 3 more inches along parts of Lake Michigan.
