Michigan Pilot Injured Crash-Landing Plane On Wyoming Highway
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A pilot has survived crash-landing on a section of Wyoming interstate highway known to be treacherous for cars, let alone planes.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol says 67-year-old Steven Stam, of Holland Michigan, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after putting his single-engine plane down Friday morning on Interstate 80.
Ivinson Memorial Hospital officials declined to disclose Stam's condition.
The crash happened in Telephone Canyon about four miles east of Laramie. Stam managed to land without hitting steep rock walls and forested mountainsides on either side of the highway.
The steep, winding highway can be hazardous to drive, especially in foul weather.
The plane landed intact with damage to its nose and wing. Details about Stam's flight plan or why he crash-landed weren't immediately available.
Traffic resumed flowing soon after the crash.
