'Michigan Matters' Focus: Trumping Our Future!
Following the stunning victory of Donald Trump as our 45th president over Hillary Clinton, the "Michigan Matters" panels talked about how our state will fare under the new administration.
Ronna Romney McDaniel, chair of the Michigan GOP, said she knew election day their internal polls had the business man up eight points in Michigan and that the other polls were wrong.
Trump swept Michigan, Ohio and other longtime Democratic bellwether states.
McDaniel was joined on the panel by Cong. Debbie Dingell and Lena Epstein, a business executive who served as a state co-chair of the Trump Michigan Campaign.
Dingell, a powerhouse in Democratic politics, also said she knew Trump was gaining over Clinton as she talked with members at union halls over the months.
Epstein was one of the first people to volunteer to help Trump when he got into the race 18 months ago.
Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and University of Michigan Regent Denise Ilitch both won their re-elections on Tuesday. They were part of the roundtable along with Keith Owens, Senior Editor of the Michigan Chronicle.
Owens displayed the front page of the iconic African American newspaper which had a huge "WTF" headline in describing Trump's startling win.
"We've had a lot of people applauding our headline," said Owens.
Trump was in the eye of the storm on numerous front during the campaign over his comments on race and derogatory comments about women.
McDaniel said to give Trump a chance when he takes over Jan. 20.
