Michigan Man Killed While Helping With I-70 Crash

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana State Police say a Michigan trucker was struck and killed by a semi trailer after he stopped to help at a pre-dawn crash on Interstate 70 in Indianapolis.

Investigators believe 56-year-old Jack Yancer of Merrill, Michigan, was in the center lane of the freeway attempting to warn oncoming traffic when he was struck and killed about 4 a.m. Wednesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say they aren't certain of Yancer's actions in the center lane before being struck because there were no witnesses.

None of the other three drivers involved in the two incidents was injured.

The crash closed the highway just west of I-465 on the city's southwest side for more than three hours.
