Michigan Attractions See Ups, Downs From Pokemon Go Game

SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - Officials at Michigan attractions are seeing positives and negatives from people playing the Pokemon Go smartphone game.

The Saginaw News says the Saginaw Children's Zoo is reporting an uptick in visitors looking for place to collect virtual items for the game. Marketing and Communication Coordinator Lizzy Schultz says young people playing the game initially left a security guard baffled.

Schultz is encouraging visitors, saying: "Come and see the animals and catch the Pokemon and then take a break from your phones and come and see the real animals."

The Grand Rapids Press reports, however, that some people have tried on sneak into Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in western Michigan after closing time.

Meijer Gardens says it wants visitors to follow the rules, such as not touching sculpture.
