Metro Detroit Native Among Police Officers Killed In Dallas Shootings
DETROIT (WWJ) - One of the police officers killed in Thursday night's sniper-style shootings in Dallas, Texas, is from Redford Township.
Michael Krol was one of five officers fatally shot at a demonstration against recent police shootings in Minnesota and Louisiana. Seven additional officers were wounded in the attack.
Krol's mother on Friday morning WWJ Newsradio 950 her son had moved to Dallas nine years ago after previously working as a Wayne County Sheriff's deputy.
During a brief phone call with WWJ, she said she'd learned Friday morning that her son had died and was busy packing her bags to head to Dallas.
The woman, who did not give her name, described her son as a caring, protective person. She called the shooting "senseless."
In a statement, Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon confirmed that Krol worked in the county jails from 2003 to 2007.
"We are saddened by the loss of the dedicated officers in Dallas — one of whom was a former member of this agency — and also the wounding of the other officers," Napoleon said.
