Mementos From Mackinac Bridge's 50th Anniversary On Sale For The Holidays

ST. IGNACE, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - The Mackinac Bridge's 50th anniversary was eight years ago, but it's not too late to get some mementos from the celebration -- just in time for the holiday season.

You can buy posters, commemorative tokens and medallions by mail or in person at the Mackinac Bridge Authority building in St. Ignace.

Executive Secretary Bob Sweeney said the authority reprinted the four poster designs from the bridge's 50th anniversary because of popular demand. The limited-quantity original posters sold quickly when issued in 2007.

"Admirers of the bridge who missed out on the first run of anniversary posters or didn't know bridge tokens are still available have another opportunity to get these commemorative items," Sweeney said in a statement.

The posters are available in four designs for $10 each or $30 for any combination of four.

A series of tokens and medallions is also being offered in gift sets for $10 each. Rolls of tokens can also be purchased for $96.

The nearly 5-mile-long bridge links Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas. It opened to traffic Nov. 1, 1957.
