Meijer Offers FREE Flu Shots At Detroit Locations

DETROIT (WWJ) - 'Tis the season — for the flu.

With that in mind, Meijer is offering free flu shots at both of its two Detroit locations.

The first 100 customers in the pharmacy area of a each location through 8 p.m. on Friday will be able to get the vaccine. If there are any remaining as of 8 p.m. Friday, customers will be able to get a free flu shot starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Meijer's Detroit stores are located at 21431 Grand River Ave. on the city's west side, and at 1301 W. 8 Mile Road, just west of I-75. (Please note, these are the only two Meijer locations offering the shots for free).

A yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months and older, but to get it at Meijer you must be age 5 and up. Vaccination is especially important for protecting those at high risk for serious flu complications, including young children, pregnant women, adults 65 years and older, and anyone with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes, and heart disease.

The retailer says it's providing the free flu shots to help local residents avoid falling ill over the holidays.
