Medical Examiner Finds 2 Died In Murder-Suicide

PONTIAC (WWJ/AP) - The Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office has determined that a couple found fatally shot in Pontiac over the weekend died in a murder-suicide.

Sheriff's deputies, on Sunday afternoon, found the bodies of a 30-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man in the upstairs bedroom of a home in the 90 block of Ridgemont in the Pinewood Townhomes complex. The woman was found on the bed and the man was found behind the door with a rifle lying across his chest. Both suffered gunshot wounds to the head.

A 16-year-old who lives in the home told police his aunt and her husband were in the bedroom arguing for over an hour before he heard two gunshots. The teen said he went upstairs to check on the pair and found both of them dead. He then went to another relative's home and called 911.

The medical examiner ruled the man's death a suicide. The woman's death was ruled a homicide -- the first case reported in the city this year.

The victims were described as common law husband and wife, although their names were not released.

According to investigators, the gun used in the killings was purchased by the woman three months ago for self-defense.
