Traffic Alert: MDOT Begins 3 Month Project To Replace I-696 Tunnel Lights

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - The Michigan Department of Transportation is about to make I-696 in Oakland County a lot brighter.

Crews on Monday will start replacing lights on three tunnels along I-696 between Coolidge and Southfield roads.

As a result, MDOT will be closing two lanes nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., alternating between eastbound and westbound I-696, always leaving two lanes open.

The three month project will begin Monday, October 31st on westbound I-696 at Coolidge Highway with two lanes closed.

For the latest from the roads, stay with WWJ Newsradio 950 during Traffic and Weather on the 8s, 24-hours a day. Check for recent incidents now on the CBS Detroit Traffic Page.
