McCallum Jr. Wins Point Guard Battle, Pistons Waive Lorenzo Brown
AUBURN HILLS (CBS Detroit) -- The Detroit Pistons announced Saturday that the team has waived Lorenzo Brown, making room for Detroit native Ray McCallum Jr. to serve as the team's third point guard.
McCallum will be called upon to backup Ish Smith while usual starter Reggie Jackson is out with a knee injury. The Pistons signed both Smith and McCallum over the summer.
In three preseason appearances, McCallum averaged five points, four assists and three rebounds in 22.3 minutes per game. Also in three postseason games, Brown averaged five points and 2.7 assists in 20 minutes per game.
McCallum spent parts of last season with the Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs. He played two seasons at Detroit Country Day School and three seasons for his father -- Ray McCallum Sr. -- at the University of Detroit Mercy.
If he clears waivers, Brown will likely return to the Pistons' developmental league affiliate, the Grand Rapids Drive. Brown has played for the Drive the past two seasons.
