Man With 6 Warrants, Suspended License Arrested After Police Chase

DETROIT (WWJ) - Officials say a 24-year-old man who had six outstanding warrants was taken into custody after a midnight police chase in Detroit.

The incident unfolded around 3:45 a.m. Thursday as Michigan State Police troopers attempted to stop a 2005 Dodge Stratus for "defective equipment" on the Davison Freeway near Woodward Avenue.

Instead of stopping, police say the driver kept going -- initiating a chase.

After about two miles, the suspect's vehicle became stuck in a field at John R and Savannah Street. The suspect then attempted to flee on foot when he was caught and taken into custody without further incident.

Police say additional investigation revealed that the suspect had six outstanding warrants and a suspended driver's license. He was transported to the Detroit Detention Center where he was processed and lodged, pending a prosecutor's review.

Police say no one was injured in the incident, but the pursuing trooper's vehicle was damaged.
