Man Wanted For Ohio Murder Nabbed At Birthday Party In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say they captured an Ohio murder suspect when officers raided the man's birthday party in Detroit this week.

Walter Delon Tate is accused of fatally shooting a 32-year-old James L. Brown, Jr. in Painesville, east of Cleveland, on July 4. Investigators believed he fled to the Detroit area, where he has extensive family ties.

The U.S. Marshal Service in Detroit learned that Tate's family was planning to throw a birthday party for him in a west side neighborhood and quickly sprung into action.

Officers began canvasing the neighborhood when they stumbled upon a house decorated with birthday signs and balloons, and recognized several of Tate's family members standing outside. AT that point, Marshals surrounded the house and found Tate in the basement. He was taken into custody without further incident.

The arrest happened earlier this week, The Willoughby News-Herald reported.

Painesville police say Tate will remain jailed until an extradition hearing. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney yet.
