Man To Get Life Sentence In Revenge Killing Of 2-Year-Old Girl
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - An ex-convict who authorities say killed a 2-year-old girl in front of her father in a revenge attack faces sentencing.
Raymone Jackson on Tuesday is expected to get a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole. A Wayne County Circuit Court jury earlier this month found Jackson guilty of first-degree murder in the July 1, 2014, shooting of Kamiya Gross outside a house in Inkster.
The jury also convicted Raphael Hearn of first-degree murder. Prosecutors say Hearn helped Jackson plan and carry out the attack. He's also scheduled for sentencing on Tuesday.
Authorities say Jackson shot Kamiya in the head, then wounded her father, Kenneth French, and a 13-year-old girl. Authorities have said that the attack was retaliation for an earlier shooting.
"I go greet him, like, 'What's up my baby, how you doing?' and he starts shooting," French told the court during a preliminary hearing. "The idea was to kill my baby and make me suffer before he killed me."
