Man Shot Multiple Times While Driving On Lodge Freeway; Gunman At Large

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police in Detroit are searching for a gunman who targeted a driver on the Lodge Freeway -- twice -- on the city's west side.

According to police, the victim was driving southbound on M-10 at Wyoming Avenue around 12:20 a.m. Friday when a vehicle pulled next to him and someone opened fire.

The victim stopped at the Livernois Avenue ramp, got out of his silver Jeep Grand Cherokee and was calling 911 when, according to police, the shooter circled around again on the service drive and shot up the vehicle a second time.

The victim, who was shot at least twice, ran to a nearby neighborhood for safety until Michigan State Police troopers arrived on the scene. He was then transported to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries are described as non-life threatening.

Troopers searched the area but found no signs of the gunman. More than a dozen shots were fired.

"Detectives are currently interviewing the victim and trying to gain background on the incident as well as get a description of the vehicle or suspect," police said in a statement.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Michigan State Police tip line at  1-855-MICH-TIP.

The freeway was closed for several hours as police investigated the scene but has since reopened to traffic.
