Man Shot Dead While Walking Down East Side Detroit Street

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say a 21-year-old man who was walking down a street on Detroit's east side was shot dead when a car pulled up and a gunman opened fire.

The incident happened Friday night at the intersection of Packard Street and Savage Avenue, in a neighborhood near 8 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue.

According to police, the victim was walking in the area with another male when a dark-colored Dodge Stratus pulled up and two people jumped out of the back seat. Police say one of the suspects, who was armed with an assault rifle, started shooting before they both quickly got back into the vehicle, which sped away.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His friend was uninjured.

Police are now searching for the suspects, described as black males in their 20s. Reports say one of the suspects is 6'2" and 180 lbs. with a light complexion and dread locks. The other suspect is reportedly 6'2" and 130 lbs.

It was just one of three shooting incidents that happened Friday night in the city, leaving a total of two people dead and at least six others injured.

At a car wash along Gratiot near Houston-Whittier Street, a man was killed and four other people were wounded when an unknown suspect opened fire.

In the other incident, two men were injured in a shootout following a robbery attempt outside of a home on Meade, near the I-75 and Davison Freeway interchange.
