Man Loses Control Of Snowmobile, Dies In Crash
NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 43-year-old man has died after losing control of a snowmobile in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and crashing into a guard rail post and sign.
The Marquette County sheriff's department says the man from the Lower Peninsula community of Milan died following Thursday's crash along Trail No. 14 in Negaunee Township. He was riding with other snowmobilers at the time. His name wasn't immediately released.
Investigators say he failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of the machine. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
According to state figures, the man is at least the 22nd snowmobiler killed this winter, The Mining Journal of Marquette reported. That's up from 12 recorded by the same time last winter, but officials aren't sure what has led to the increase, according to Mlive.com.
