Man Killed While Cutting Down Tree In Livingston County

OCEOLA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 56-year-old man has died after a tree that had partially fallen due to a storm toppled onto him in Livingston County.

Sheriff Bob Bezotte says Michael William Powell was at a friend's home in Oceola Township cutting the tree on Sunday when it fell. Bezotte tells the Livingston Daily Press & Argus of Howell that Powell was standing on the opposite side of where they thought it would land.

Bezotte says the tree struck Powell in the back of the head, crushing his skull. WHMI-FM reports the death has been ruled accidental.

Oceola Township is located about 45 miles northwest of Detroit.
