Man Killed, Struck By Amtrak Train Headed To Chicago From Michigan

KALAMAZOO (WWJ) - Some Amtrak passengers traveling to Chicago from Dearborn and Pontiac stalled near Kalamazoo, Thursday morning, after a man was struck and killed by a train.

According to Amtrak, the man was standing on the tracks near Webster Street, in the Mattawan area, when the collision occurred.

An Amtrak spokesman told WWJ Newsradio 950 train 351 was still stopped at noon and wouldn't resume its route until police complete their investigation. There was no immediate word on how long that would take.

As a result of the incident, two other trains, one from Chicago to Michigan and another one heading to Chicago were stalled as well.

There was no further information available about the victim.

Police on the scene told Kalamazoo News Channel 3 that it may have been a suicide.
