Man Killed, His 2 Brothers Hurt In Crash On Slick U.P. Road

BATES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say an icy and snow-covered western Upper Peninsula roadway is believed to be a factor in a crash that killed a 22-year-old Houghton man and injured his two younger brothers.

State police say the car's 16-year-old driver lost control about 1 p.m. Wednesday on Bates Amasa Road in Iron County's Bates Township. The car crossed the center line and collided with a semitrailer.

The teenager was being treated at a Wisconsin hospital. His 20-year-old brother was in a rear seat and was hospitalized with injuries considered non-life threatening. Their older brother was in the front seat.

Each of the car's occupants was wearing seatbelts. The 58-year-old driver of the truck was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
