Man Jumps From Window After Drug Deal Goes Wrong Near U-M Campus
ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - One person has been arrested after police say a drug deal went wrong near the University of Michigan Campus.
Ann Arbor police said a 31-year-old Detroit man is in custody in connection with the incident Wednesday evening, at an apartment in the 500 block of S. Division near E. Jefferson, just west of campus.
It all began, police say, when the Detroit man and a 56-year-old Ann Arbor man discussed a plan to do crack cocaine.
Police said younger man gave the older man some money to go buy the drugs from his dealer. The older man left and returned much later, admitting he'd smoked it all himself and no longer had the younger man's cash.
The older man told police that's when the younger man pulled a handgun and threatened him, frightening him so badly that he jumped from a second-story window, breaking a leg in the fall.
Police earlier reported the incident as a home invasion, until officers got more details from the alleged victim.
The younger man was arrested Thursday morning, in the 100 block of S. Fourth Ave., and the older man was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said there were other people in the apartment at the time of the incident but they weren't involved.
No names have been released. An investigation is ongoing.
