2 Injured In Shooting On I-94 Near Lodge Freeway; Gunman At Large

DETROIT (WWJ) - Two people were injured Friday when someone shot into their vehicle along I-94 in Detroit.

The freeway was shut down on the westbound side, near the Lodge, following the incident at around 12:30 p.m.. The freeway reopened shortly after 4 p.m.

Police said a man and a woman were taken by EMS to a local hospital for treatment. The man was in critical condition, while the woman was in good condition.

Reporting from an overpass near the scene, WWJ's Sandra McNeill said the vehicle involved had clearly been shot at multiple times. "Even the tires are flattened — it was riddled with so many bullets," she said.

Michigan State Police Lt. Calvin Hart said they do not believe it was a random shooting.  He did not discuss a possible motive and would not immediately confirm reports that the shooting was road rage-related.

At 3 p.m., the shooter was still on the loose.

Mary Burnett, who lives in the area, was unsettled when she heard what happened.

"It's scary to think that anybody could get that angry and be that violent," she said. "I'm baffled; I'm speechless...broad daylight? Gotta stay safe."
