Man Gets Life For 1972 Murder Of 3 Men In Michigan
MONROE, Mich. (AP) - A southeastern Michigan judge has sentenced a man to life in prison for murder in the 1972 abduction-killings of two Ohio men and a Michigan man in Monroe County.
Sixty-eight-year-old Laurence Lamont pleaded no contest Dec. 17 to three counts of second-degree murder. A no-contest plea isn't an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for sentencing.
Circuit Judge Michael W. LaBeau sentenced him Thursday.
The victims were 68-year-old Earl Ludlow of Temperance; 23-year-old Joseph Satcher of Toledo, Ohio; and 36-year-old Frank Welzbacher of Sylvania, Ohio.
Authorities say Lamont abducted the victims in Michigan and Ohio before killing them in Michigan just north of the Ohio line. Lamont was in prison in Ohio for decades for other crimes.
Another suspect died behind bars.
