Man Gets 8 Years In Fatal Motorcycle Group Crash
CHILTON, Wis. (WWJ/AP) - A 27-year-old Wisconsin man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for slamming his car into a group of Michigan motorcyclists in 2012, killing two of them.
Clinton Lovelace, of Hilbert, Wis., also was sentenced Thursday to 15 years extended supervision and seven years probation.
Prosecutors say Lovelace was under the influence of drugs when he crossed the center line, hitting members of the Muskegon Motorcycle Gang. Fifty-nine-year-old Daniel Winsemius of Twin Lake, Mich., and 43-year-old Doug Yonkers, of Muskegon, Mich., were killed. Eight others were injured.
Lovelace apologized before his sentence was handed down saying, "I can't begin to explain how horrible I feel that this has happened."
Under a plea deal, Lovelace pleaded no contest in September to charges of killing someone by negligent operation of a vehicle. He also made an Alford plea to separate reckless injury charges, meaning he did not admit he was guilty, but did agree prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him.
