Man Found Guilty In Death Of 2 Kids During Police Chase In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) — A man has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and other charges in a high-speed chase with police that left two children dead in Detroit.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday that a jury convicted Lorenzo Harris on charges including involuntary manslaughter and first-degree fleeing and eluding.

Police say the chase last June began after an officer saw somebody in the car with a gun, and lasted for almost 75 seconds. Harris was driving a stolen Chevrolet Camaro at about 100 mph on a residential street when he lost control and went off the roadway, according to police, killing a 6-year-old boy and his 3-year-old sister. Three other children and a woman also were injured.

The prosecutor's office said Harris is scheduled to be sentenced April 6.
