Man Clinging To Life After Crash On 8 Mile Road

WARREN (WWJ) - A man is in critical condition after crashing his car into at least one other vehicle near the Detroit-Warren border.

According to police, the man was driving a sedan eastbound down 8 Mile Road when he apparently ran a red light at Groesbeck Highway and struck a northbound traveling conversion van.

As the sedan was coming to a rest near a utility pole, the van then hit an electric box in the median, knocking out power to nearby streetlights.

The driver of the sedan was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The other driver was uninjured.

Police are trying to figure out if the crash is related to another accident that happened a few miles west on 8 Mile Road at Mt. Elliot Street. One vehicle was struck at that location, police said, just moments before the crash at Groesbeck. No injuries were reported.

Warren and Detroit police are on the scene.

The intersection of 8 Mile and Groesbeck remains completely blocked off to traffic as police continue an investigation.
