Man Charged With Murder After Allegedly Beating Wife, Dog To Death With Baseball Bat

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP (AP) — A 32-year-old Detroit-area man accused of killing his wife and dog with a baseball bat while the couple's children were in other parts of their home has been charged with first-degree murder and animal cruelty.

Joseph Mauti was arraigned Monday in Clarkston District Court and jailed without bond until a June 10 court appearance. It's unknown if he has a lawyer.

The Oakland County sheriff's department says deputies investigating a welfare complaint found 30-year-old Lindsey Mauti dead on the floor of her garage in Independence Township. The dog's body was nearby.

Deputies found her husband, 2-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter inside the house.

The Detroit News says Joseph Mauti is a parolee for a 2014 domestic violence conviction.

Lindsey Mauti's funeral is Wednesday at First Congregational Church of Clarkston.
