Man Charged In Slaying Of Detroit Uber Driver To Face Trial

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 23-year-old man charged in the fatal shooting of an Uber driver in Detroit will face trial on a murder charge and other crimes.

A judge on Thursday said there's enough evidence to send Dajuan Watson to trial in the death of Modou Diagne.

Police responding to a reported traffic accident on March 19 found 51-year-old Diagne inside an SUV on the city's west side suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He later died at a hospital.

Prosecutors say Watson had requested that Diagne pick him up, and then shot him during an altercation. He was arrested nearly a month later.

Diagne, who was originally from Senegal, had been an Uber driver for the past three years. He leaves behind a pregnant wife and three children.

If convicted as charged, Watson faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
