Man Charged In Robbery Of Auburn Hills Gas Station

AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) -- Luis Nazario-Rivera, 43, of Orion Township was charged with armed robbery and fleeing & eluding police on Thursday.

Bond was set at $500,000 cash.  A pre-exam conference has been set for July 14.

Armed-Robbery carries a maximum possible penalty of life imprisonment or any term of years.  Fleeing and Eluding 3rd degree carries a penalty of 5 years and/or $10,000 fine.

The Auburn Hills Police Department responded to a reported armed robber at the BP Gas station at Lapeer Rd near I-75 on Tuesday.  Nazario-Rivera allegedly entered the store brandishing a handgun and demanded money.  He was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of money from the store and fled the scene in a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser.  The clerk was not injured in the incident.

Auburn Hills Police located the suspect vehicle on Brown Rd. near Lapeer Rd. immediately after Nazario-Rivera allegedly fled the scene.  Officers attempted to stop Nazario-Rivera, but he refused to stop and a pursuit ensued.  Nazario-Rivera fled west on Brown Rd. to Baldwin Rd., where he then drove into the parking lot of the Great Lakes Crossing Outlet.

Officers located the vehicle unoccupied in the mall parking lot.  Officers also located a gun near the vehicle that matched the description of the weapon used.

Officers set-up a perimeter around the mall property and began searching for the suspect.  Nazario-Rivera was later apprehended near the parking lot of Pier One Imports on Baldwin Rd. and was taken into custody without incident.

There were no injuries to any citizens or police officers during the incident.
