Man Arraigned In Rape Case From 1998
ROSEVILLE (CBS Detroit) -- A Roseville woman who was raped after leaving a bingo game will get justice -- posthumously -- as Roseville Police think they may have solved the 16-year-old case.
Michael Loftis will be arraigned on June 9 in a Macomb County Court on charges of kidnapping and rape of a 62-year old woman back in the summer of 1998. Police say the suspect allegedly attempted to rob the victim when she was leaving a bingo game at Sacred Heart Church at the intersection of Utica Road and Gratiot in Roseville.
When she couldn't produce money, its alleged that he forced her into her car, drove her to another location and raped her. Samples from the victim's clothing were stored in the Michigan State Police Crime Lab until last year when DNA was matched with another crime in California.
The victim died of natural causes in 2011.
