Macomb County Teams Up With City Of Warren To Fight Potholes
WARREN (WWJ) - The harsh winter is taking its toll on local roads -- and that's led to rare cooperation between city and county officials in Macomb county.
The city of Warren -- already inundated with a bunch of their own potholes -- has decided to help out Macomb County by taking on more of the roadway ruts. Warren Mayor Jim Fouts and Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel were able to work out a deal. And Fouts says this works for everyone.
"I think it's in the best interest of not just the county and the city, but, more importantly, the many citizens -- hundreds, maybe thousands -- who travel those roads," says Fouts.
Cold temperatures this Winter have led to a lot of cold patching of potholes. The City of Warren will get paid nearly $300 an hour to do the patching on county roads.
"The holes are sometimes major saucers, and when you go over them you feel it. And you're lucky if you don't destroy your tire and rim in the process. But this is a win for everybody," says Fouts.
Fouts says his road crews have patched 25,000 potholes this Winter... and that's before helping out with county roads.
