Livingston County man found dead in suspected dog attack

CBS News Detroit Digital Brief for August 3, 2023

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) - Livingston County deputies found a man's body Wednesday morning who they believe may have been killed in a domestic animal attack.

At about 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, animal control deputies were conducting a follow-up at a home in the 8000 block of Faussett Road in Tyrone Township.

The sheriff's office says the homeowner was being served a court notice for a show-cause hearing. The dog at the residence, a Mastiff mix breed, had been involved in an incident in which it attacked a neighbor. The victim was seriously injured.

When the animal control deputies arrived at the home, they found the 68-year-old homeowner and dog owner in a cattle pasture behind the house.

"It was observed that the dog was actively biting the decedent's body when Animal Control Deputies located him," said the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. "The victim who was later pronounced deceased on-scene, had fatal injuries consistent in appearance with a dog attack. Due to the dog's aggressive behavior toward the victim and responding emergency personnel, the animal was killed on-site so that medical aid could be attempted."

The Livingston County Sheriff's Office says that no foul play is suspected.

The man was taken to a local hospital for an autopsy.

The investigation is ongoing.
