Lions Continue A Bizarre Losing Streak With 45-10 Loss To Chiefs

Leave it to the Lions to have one of the longest and more bizarre losing streaks in the NFL.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, which provides statistics relating to professional sports, Detroit has lost 15 straight games on the first day of a month. No other team in the NFL has a streak that long.

The losing skid dates back to the 1970s: The last time the Lions won a game on the first of the month was on Oct. 1, 1973, at the old Tiger Stadium.

According to Elias, the streak has been held together by eight different Lions coaches, 10 starting quarterbacks and 12 different stadiums. Jim Caldwell, Matthew Stafford and Wembley Stadium were the ingredients for the franchise's 15th straight such loss this weekend, on Nov. 1.

Elias kept piling on, too: The Chiefs' 45-10 win over the Lions this weekend in London matched the franchise's largest win away from home since the NFL-AFL merger (which usually serves as the marker of modern NFL history).

At 1-7 and few realistic hopes to make the playoffs, at least the Lions can take heart in the fact that they're making history.
