Lidstrom, Fedorov Elected To Hockey Hall Of Fame
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) -- The Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto will gain two more members from the Detroit Red Wings this year.
Nicklas Lidstrom and Sergei Fedorov will be inducted with the Class of 2015 later this year, joining seven other players from the 2002 Stanley Cup Championship Red Wings team to earn Hall of Fame honors.
Lidstrom played his entire NHL career in Detroit from 1987 to 2012, serving as captain after Steve Yzerman hung up his skates in 2006. It was Lidstrom's first year on the ballot.
Lidstrom is third in franchise history in career assists (878) and fourth in points (1142). He had his No. 5 jersey number retired by the Red Wings in 2013.
Fedorov spent his first 13 seasons in the NHL with the Red Wings from 1990 to 2003, playing a major role in the "Russian Five" line that was so successful throughout the 90s. Fedorov sits at fifth all-time in Red Wings history in points (954).
Also joining the 2015 Class will be Harper Woods-native Angela Ruggiero, who won an Olympic gold metal and two silver metals with the U.S. Woman's Olympic Hockey Team. Former Plymouth Whalers owner and Detroiter Peter Karmanos will also be inducted.
