Lawyer: Judge Will Quit If He Wins Tuesday
ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) - The Royal Oak city attorney has told officials that a local judge plans to resign if he wins re-election.
The Macomb Daily and The Detroit News report that District Judge Terrance Brennan has been off the bench since Oct. 8. In emails, Royal Oak attorney David Gillam has disclosed that the judge is accused of an inappropriate relationship with a female employee.
Gillam has told city officials that Brennan, a judge since 1991, plans to avoid disciplinary action by quitting in January if he wins Tuesday. He's unopposed on the ballot, although city commissioner David Poulton is running as a write-in candidate.
Brennan hasn't commented on the controversy.
Gillam says the Michigan Supreme Court is aware of the issue. Court spokesman John Nevin declined to comment.
