Lansing Mayor Plans Efforts To Boost Neighborhoods, Services

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero is boosting efforts to revitalize neighborhoods, improve city services and spur economic growth.

The Lansing State Journal reports Bernero's administration plans a program called Block By Block to create improvement plans related to issues such as crime prevention and blight removal.

Bernero says: "We will take stock of each neighborhood's assets and opportunities as well as its challenges" while working to create a "tailor-made plan" for every neighborhood. Bernero discussed the idea Tuesday night during his State of the City address.

Flint Mayor Karen Weaver attended and signed a pledge that makes Flint the first Michigan city to participate in Lansing's Sister Cities Program. The effort to work together in areas such as education, business and the arts comes amid Flint's crisis with lead-tainted water.
