Keeping The Momentum Going At Ford, U-M, WSU: Mark Fields, Mark Schlissel, M. Roy Wilson's Challenge

(CBS Detroit) - Mark Fields, new CEO of Ford's biggest challenge will be to keep the momentum going started by his predecessor Alan Mulally.

As new president of the University of Michigan, Mark Schlissel's mission will be to do the same thing as he follows Mary Sue Coleman, who served as the 13th leader of the Ann Arbor university.

And WSU President M. Roy Wilson's charge will be to help the urban based school make a bigger difference in the heart of the Motor City.

That was the consensus of Autoline's John McElroy, UM regent Denise Ilitch, and Michigan Chronicle Senior Editor Bankole Thompson, who appear on this week's "Michigan Matters" show to discuss a myriad of issues.

McElroy also talked about Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors and how she has handled the ignition crisis.

Ilitch, who was among the eight regents who gave Schlissel a unanimous vote as new president, talked of his credentials and background in medical that will help UM.

Thompson said it would be interesting to see how Schlissel did on the issue of race as a barometer to entry to the UM, a topic that has been centered at the school for years.

He wondered if Wilson might work with Schlissel in helping keeping that issue on the front burner.
