Kalamazoo College Students Share Concerns With Officials
KALAMAZOO (AP) - About 100 Kalamazoo College students have shared their concerns about safety and discrimination with school officials.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports Saturday that the students marched through the auditorium of the private liberal arts college's student center and into an open forum for faculty, administration and randomly selected students. They were discussing campus diversity.
The rally came days after an anonymous, online posting that school officials described as "racist, anti-Semitic, sexist and homophobic." The entry also included threats to faculty members.
The students also urged for the creation of an intercultural center and anti-racism training.
College President Eileen Wilson-Oyelaran says she's proud of the students. She added there have two years of conversations and efforts to share concerns and solve "complicated" problems.
