Jurgen Klinsmann Writes Note To Excuse Fans From Work To Watch U.S. Game

CBS DETROIT - The United States men's national soccer team plays Germany in its World Cup match Thursday, and the game starts at 12 p.m. - right in the middle of the average work day.

The U.S. team is part of Group G, the so-called "Group of Death," along with Ghana, Portugal and Germany. The United States defeated Ghana in its first game of the tournament and then played Portugal to a draw in the second game. Like the United States, Germany has recorded one win and one draw to this point.

For those fans brainstorming creative ways to get away from work to watch the big game Thursday afternoon, U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann has provided a more straightforward alternative - a get-out-of-work-free card, if you will.

Maybe the best line of Klinsmann's note, after he asks the boss to please excuse the employee to watch the game, is the one that reads, "By the way, you should act like a good leader and take the day off as well. Go USA!"

If only a soccer coach really had the authority to get people out of work. At least the game is around lunch time.
