Jessica Mendoza Making Broadcast History As TV Analyst For MLB Playoff Game

DETROIT  (WWJ) - Jessica Mendoza is making baseball and broadcasting history Tuesday night. She is about to become the first female analyst for a nationally televised MLB playoff game. It'll happen when Mendoza calls the Houston Astros verses the New York Yankees in the American League Wild Card Game on ESPN.

Tiger play-by-play man Dan Dickerson says it's about time.

"I think it's great, I think it sends the right message - you know, if you are qualified, why not? And she is obviously qualified and I think it's a great moment for women who aspire to do something on a very high level," said Dickerson.

"If you are that young college student or just out of college - you need that role model to say 'she can do it - it's possible for me,' and that's why I think it's a great day for all aspiring broadcasters - especially young women broadcasters."

Mendoza's experience includes working for ESPN as a color analyst during the Women's College World Series. She was also a former collegiate 4-time First Team All-American softball player.
