The Red Wings announced Monday that rookie Dylan Larkin will be on the team's opening night roster.
Larkin, the 19-year-old Michigan native, was drafted 15th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. In the Wings' five preseason games, Larkin has tallied three goals (tied for second on the team during the exhibition season) and an assist.
As a freshman at Michigan, Larkin led all Big Ten freshmen with 47 points (15 goals and 32 assists) - that number was also good for second in the nation for first-year players.
Larkin also became the first Michigan player in history to win an international medal with a national team while still enrolled at the school. He played for the 2015 IIHF World Championships in the Czech Republic and appeared in all 10 games of the competition.
Reviews of Larkin's performance during the preseason have been solid, and according to Bill Roose, the forward skated with the Wings' top line on Monday.
The Red Wings open their regular season schedule on Friday against the Maple Leafs at 7:30 at Joe Louis Arena.
