Jailed Cancer Doctor's Personal Items, Medical Equipment Up For Bids
DETROIT (WWJ) - What do a Jurassic Park pinball machine and a handful of Thomas Kinkade lookalikes have to do with Oakland County Dr. Farid Fata — the cancer specialist accused of intentionally misdiagnosing patients and bilking the government out of tens of millions of dollars?
Until 6 p.m. Tuesday, more than 500 of the disgraced physician's personal and medical possessions are up for grabs through a repost.com auction.
Auction accounts Manager Jared Hekstra said Fata and his attorney were willing to sell it all.
"They were very easy to work with," Hekstra told WWJ Newsadio 950's Kathryn Larson.
Items up for grabs include a grand piano, several paintings listed, and loads of fancy medical equipment
"Basically they gave us free rein to take whatever was of any value; so they let us go in there and, you know, we did what we could to hopefully secure as many assets and the most money possible for them," Hekstra said.
Hekstra said they'll send all money earned to Fata's attorney.

Meantime. Fata remains behind bars.
He charged with committing fraud to enrich himself through health insurance programs. The government claims some patients repeatedly exposed to powerful drugs despite not actually having cancer.
Fata denies any wrongdoing.
A pre-trial hearing is set for next month.
