Inkster Man Shot During Robbery Attempt; 1 In Custody, 1 On The Run
INKSTER (WWJ) - An Inkster man is lucky to be alive after he was shot during an apparent robbery attempt outside of his home.
The incident happened early Friday morning on Chestnut Avenue at Moore Street, in a neighborhood just south of Michigan Avenue and Inkster Road.
Michael Selma told WWJ's Mike Campbell his father was outside when he was approached by two men.
"It was a loud bang, I heard a crash and two seconds later he was at the door," said Selma. "My mom ran downstairs to open the door and he crawls in saying 'I've been shot! I've been shot!'
Selma said his father was complaining about a sharp pain in his back, but the gunshot wound was actually on the front of his shoulder. He was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be OK, although his current condition is unknown.
Police were on the scene within minutes and Selma said they wasted no time getting to business.
"They've got one suspect in custody so I guess they're out looking for the other one," he said. "They brought the K9s and, oh yeah -- they did find the suspect's weapon. It was a 9 millimeter."
Police say the second suspect is known, although they did not provide a name or physical description.
The incident remains under investigation.
