'I'm Lucky Even To Be Alive' Says Home Invasion Stabbings Survivor
YORK TWP. (WWJ) - Police have identified a person of interest after two people were stabbed to death during a home invasion in Washtenaw County.
In all, five victims were stabbed early Saturday morning— including two who were fatally wounded and three who remained hospitalized Monday.
"It's nuts; it's a nightmare. I don't even know how to deal with it," said Northern Michigan resident Nicole Skinner, who was slashed in the hand and neck in the attack.
She told WWJ's Ron Dewey she and her children were visiting family at the home on Crane Road in York Township, south of Ann Arbor, after attending a NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway.
"Me and John Brown were downstairs, sleeping on separate couches. We both heard a scream and I ran upstairs first, he was behind me," Skinner said.
"I come to the top of the stairs, the guy swung, I lifted my hand up — that's when my hand got cut. I seen Vicki and Timber in the bedroom on the floor, so I ducked; that's when he got my neck...I'm lucky even to be alive."
According to Michigan State Police, the assailant was a white male between 5-foot-9 and 6-feet tall, and 150 to 160 pounds, wearing a neon green, high-visibility landscaping shirt.
Skinner said she doesn't know who the stabber was or what the motive might have been, but she — like police — does not believe this was a random crime.
She did say it appeared the stabber went directly to her cousin's room when he entered the home.
"I can't picture the guy and it's bugging me," Skinner said. "I was too worried about my friends' lives and my kids."
"Nobody knew it was gonna happen," she added. "We all felt safe."
Skinner said she hopes Michigan State Police, who are investigating the case, find the killer soon.
"Catch him and lock him up and don't let him back out...make him suffer. They should give him the electric chair, I think," Skinner said.
