LIVONIA (WWJ) - It's news west side commuters will welcome!
"Tomorrow for rush hour I-96 will be open all the way," reported Governor Rick Snyder.
The Jeffries Freeway (I-96) from Newburgh Road to Telegraph -- will re-open Monday at 5:00 a.m., some three weeks early. Governor Rick Snyder shared the announcement on WWJ Newsradio 950.
"We put incentives in - to actually encourage people to get it done faster and better, in this case, it worked. In fact, they are using a new (paving ) technology so it's part of the innovations we are looking forward to using in the future as being better and faster about this work so it'll last longer," said Snyder.
The Governor took part Sunday in a special "Family Fun Day" in which MDOT opened up a portion of the seven-mile stretch of I-96 for the public to walk, ride bikes or roller blade. That section of freeway has been closed for construction since April.
