Hit-And-Run Driver Wanted In Death Of Father Of 5
SOUTHGATE (WWJ) - Southgate police are asking for the public's help to solve a nearly three week-old hit-and-run accident that took the life of a 39-year-old father of five.
According to Chief Jeff Smith, Frank King was walking on Northline Road at around 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, when he was struck by a car.
"It appears that he was crossing Northline in southerly direction," said Smith. "Just by what we can figure out here, it looked like he may have been walking back from the gas station, possibly over to the hotel or the Arby's or McDonald's; and he was in the right lane."
"He was almost back across the entire street," Smith said. "So, our investigation is showing that the accident occurred in what would be the eastbound right curb lane."
King was reportedly dragged abound 75 feet. Some good Samaritans who saw what happened jumped in to help.
"One guy stopped to help him and pull him off the road," Michael King, the victim's brother, told Fox 2. "The other guy chased the guy a couple of miles to get him to pull over."
The chief said police are focusing their search on a dark Blue or black Chevy Astro van that was seen fleeing the accident scene. The vehicle would like have sustained visible front end damage.
"As of right now, we don't have a whole lot of leads to go on. Again, the detectives are working on the case," Smith said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Southgate police.
