2 Arrested In Shooting Of Highland Park Police Officer During Raid
HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ/AP) - Two people are in custody in connection with the shooting of a police sergeant during a raid on a home in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park.
Sgt. Ronald Dupuis is recovering after he was shot in the leg at around 7 p.m. Monday serving a search warrant on Candler Street, off McNichols Road between I-75 and Woodward Ave.
Dupuis, who is part of the multi-jurisdictional ACTION Task Force that targets car thieves, was shot when one of the officers threw a flash bang grenade through one of the windows, according to police. Other circumstances weren't immediately clear.
Detroit police drove Dupuis to the hospital, where he was last reported in stable condition.
Dupuis — who was caught on video last month beating a carjacking suspect — is the second officer from the small police department to be shot in recent days.
Roderick Jones, a Highland Park reserve officer, was shot and killed early Saturday morning while working off-duty as a security guard at a Detroit bar. Jones, an Army veteran, was shot multiple times after telling a man to leave the bar.
Walter Jennings, of Detroit, has been charged with first-degree murder in Jones' slaying.
The names of those in custody in Dupuis' shooting were not immediately released.
