Heartwarming Post About Meijer Cashier's Kindness Goes Viral

DAYTON, Ohio (CBS Detroit) - A touching story involving Michigan's own Meijer chain of stores has gone viral.

An Ohio woman says she was waiting to get her groceries checked out at a location near Dayton, when her 3-year-old son — who's having a tough time dealing with his little brother being in the hospital — asked the cashier if he could help her ring up the purchases.

"She looked at my son and said 'Certainly' and brought him behind the register with her," wrote mom, Kimberly Grandinette, in a post along with a photo on Meijer's Facebook page.

"She was so patient with him as she let him help her scan the coupons and she made him feel like a million bucks. He skipped out of the store with a smile on his face."

The post is getting a lot of love on Facebook — with over 100,000 likes, 6,500 shares and 2,000 comments as of Monday morning.

Yesenia Hudson wrote: "It takes an extra special person to go out of their way to make a child happy! She is an example of how people should be! Sending well wishes and prayers to this family and Kristen. She truly has a beautiful heart!"

Kari Oxford-Perry commented: "Awww! I love this! I worked at Meijer for 3.5 years and casheried for about a year and a half. It was rough sometimes but always felt like family. We were encouraged to go out of our way for our customers."

Talking to MLive, Meijer spokeswoman Christina Fecher said they're proud to have incredible team members like Kristen, adding, "This is another reminder that compassion and kindness go a long way."
