Hearing Delayed For Macomb County Mom In Son's Slaying, Dismemberment
ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ/AP) - A competency hearing has been rescheduled for a 60-year-old metro Detroit mother charged in the slaying and dismemberment of her adult son whose body parts were dumped in trash bags along a roadside.
A Macomb County judge gave on Tuesday Donna Scrivo's attorney Eli Muawad some more time have an independent competency examination conducted. A hearing had been scheduled for Tuesday.
"We're going to adjourn the matter for 60 days to allow my expert to look at her and apprise me of her competency," Muawad said. "The state has already done that, but I have a chance to do that, so we're gonna adjourn the matter to go ahead and let me do that."
Scrivo has already been ruled competent by the state.
"And she will have at least another doctor to review whether or not (she's) competent," explained WWJ Legal Analyst Charlie Langton, "and competent means whether or not she understand that charges against her and if she can assist her attorney in the upcoming trial."
The St. Clair Shores woman is charged with first-degree murder and dismemberment of Ramsay Scrivo. Five bags containing his body parts were dumped in early February in St. Clair County's China and St. Clair townships, about 50 miles northeast of Detroit.
An electric saw also was found in one of the bags, police said.
The 32-year-old Ramsay Scrivo was reported missing by his mother on Jan. 26.
